When Innocence, Isn't

I am ALL FOR the use of Tumblr, and posting images / reblogging images. It’s a great way for artists to spread their work and get noticed. However, some artists don’t like their original work shared without attribution, or at all. To pull an image from another site (even Tumblr) and post it, without noting where it came from, is not only morally wrong, it’s actually illegal.

Now, I know that we all do it once and a while, and in general most people don’t have an issue with this. But when people do it incessantly, and have a history of copyright violations (which they run from, rather than own up to) it becomes a problem for the community they are trying to enthrall.

This is the case of one such user, Aeternamduo. He might be familiar to many of you, as while he now calls himself Dubhghlas Pentreath, he used to go by Darroch Greagoir, and is aka Derek Douglas Gregory (on twitter as @AeternamDuo). Not only has he committed several copyright violations, but he has done this in the past and been called-out on it. When he’s called out, he just deletes his blog and runs, rather than admitting his fault and correcting the issue. One such time he even was told by the copyright owner it was OKAY to keep the image, and he still turned tail and hid… disappearing under the floorboards, only to reemerge under a new alias, with the same shtick.

Riding to fame on the backs of others, ESPECIALLY without giving them their due, is not only unacceptable, it’s flat-out-illegal.

I hope he realizes that he can’t continue infringing on copyright, and that he needs to own up to his actions. If he doesn’t take down all of these posts, I’m going to be forced to contact the copyright owners myself to inform them that someone is using their work without request / permission.

UPDATE: Again, instead of owning up to his copyright infringement or correcting his own actions, Aeternamduo simply deleted his blog & twitter. How sad.
